Planet Zoo 2 aquatic animals and aquarium requirements

The full aquatic roster, with the water-type and space rules you need before building a tank.

Aquatic species are the headline feature of the sequel — and the one that trips up returning players, because the habitat is measured in water, not land.

12 of these are saltwater and 0 freshwater. Set the water type before adding animals — converting a tank afterwards means rebuilding the water volume and re-checking every animal.

Building a tank that holds welfare

  1. Pick the water type first, then the species that fit it.
  2. Build to the largest deep-water figure among the species you want to co-house.
  3. Keep the temperature inside every species' band — a shared tank must satisfy all of them.
  4. Add enrichment before adding a second species: one unhappy animal is easier to debug than four.
Welfare still dropping? Check salinity and temperature before space. A freshwater species in saltwater will never settle, no matter how big the tank.
